Thanks to all who came out for yesterday’s Yoga Anatomy: Explore Your Core workshop. We had a huge turnout of 38 participants. More than the numbers was the interest, diligence, excitement and engagement that everyone brought to the table. Thank you!

And of course, Shawn did a tremendous job of leading us through the experience.

Some of the key points raised were the concept of neutral spine and how to maintain that in various bodily positions: supine, standing, lunging, arm-balancing, squatting, table, and prone. This proved to be really eye-opening for most of us. Shawn offered great insight into how to create and maintain the integrity of the core by keeping neutral spine throughout.

We applied this principle in many ways with increasing load applied. I know many of you enjoyed the various “tests” performed. You probably dreamed of some of them last night!

In addition, Shawn gave us a comprehensive – yet easy to understand – overview of the anatomy of the core, as well as what really is the core comprised of – which muscles and which regions of the body. That was very helpful info.

Taken on the whole, a great, great workshop – thanks to all who came out – and here is some of the feedback we received. The best part of the seminar was:

Going through the various poses / positions and watching others.

Learning about how to tip the pelvis.

Doing the poses / exercises and really learning how to concentrate on what the core is doing.

Realizing I’m in fairly good shape.

Positions I can use to strengthen + how to do so I don’t get injured.

Practicing the positions once I can feel it on myself I can understand how to work toward the correction. 

Functional / daily use applications for “real life” core use.

The knowledge between PT/ Yoga- shared each other’s knowledge very well.

Learning to pay attention to neutral spine.

Professional presentation, knowledge base.

    This was a very smooth and engaging workshop. One of the keys to its success, we must lay credit unto you. We did the same room set-up as when you were here and expertly guided us through your awesome inner core workshop! We still remember that one and apply the techniques, including the room set-up!!

  2. It was a great semminar. Being an aerobics instructor it was very helpful to learn the correct way to do a plank and forearm plank. I have back trouble and learned methods of controlling the pain. I found out that the tension in my right hip-flexer may be some of the reason for the pain in my right side of my back. I have 4 lower disc that are deteriorating. Hence the pain. But I feel great this morning. I’m going to now work on the new moves I learned. Thank you

  3. This was a great workshop! Very well planned and executed, and fun:) The information was helpful to students and a nice refresher for yoga teachers. Satyam and Shawn worked so well together to teach us about what muscles are actually all part of the core, and the positioning of the pelvis for flexion/extention/neutral spine. Learning and experiencing, the class flowed smoothly and the time flew by. Thank you for offering this!!

  5. Fantastic seminar!!! I really enjoyed watching Satyam and Shawn, not only teach us, but learn from one another! I have become very much, more aware of my spine positioning while sitting at my desk and driving and my abdominal work is going to [be] much more effective since going to this seminar. 🙂
