Donation Challenge: Dec 2019

Donation Challenge: Dec 2019

Let’s close out the decade with a bit of giving – of things we truly do not need or never use and can really benefit others….

For the month of December 2019, we shall engage in the Donation Challenge, which essentially revolves around two terms in the yogic ideal. The first is seva, literally meaning service. And the second is aparigraha which means to refrain from indulgence of amenities beyond the minimum requirements of life – or more simply: “Don’t accumulate way too much stuff that you do not need.”

So this Donation Challenge is not about donating money, but relieving ourselves of things we have too much of, thereby enabling others to use (and benefit from) those same goods. In the practical sphere what are we talking about? Donating clothes, household items, toys, and other daily use items that we’ve had for a long, long time and never use.

Kindly bring all such donations to class, or drop them off yourself to the following locations:

(A) St James Parish (Lothian): clothing. (Note: I am regularly in and around this location and can easily make drop-offs throughout the week).

(B) Joy Reigns Thrift Shop (Edgewater): clothing, housewares, furniture, toys, and games. (Note: Accepting donations most days.)

Also, if you know of another group or organization that excels at distributing donations to our local population, kindly let us know.

Thanks for all your help and support in this endeavor.
